"Murkoff wants you to be free."
―Alice Bradley Avellanos

Alice Bradley Avellanos is one of the primary antagonists in The Outlast Trials. She is an important figurehead within the Murkoff Corporation and the Sinyala Facility, receiving all reports on the Prime Assets directly from Clyde Perry, as well as also being included in major conversations regarding the state of Project LATHE.

It is unknown what exactly is the nature of her occupation within the Murkoff Corporation and the Sinyala Facility, but she is clearly of high status due to her involvement and direct correspondence with the Board of Directors.

Background[]

Little is known about Avellanos' personal life or herself beyond small information. She has likely been working with the Murkoff Corporation since its founding, as she was already an employee before the Sinyala Facility was built in 1955[1] and has the clearance to interview possible candidates for the architecture.

Her work seems to be very accounting focused, as seen in many documents she is always thinking of cost effectiveness for the facility and the project, even to the point that her fellow co-workers will bring up cost savings within conversations. She has also created budget plans/proposals and has submitted them to the Board[2][3][4].

She is notably very involved in the pressuring[3][5] of Lawler and his connection with the Agency in order to provide funding, clearance, and agreement to the actions of the Reagents/Reagent missions/Project LATHE as well as communicating with him in regards to the development of the Winter Kills testing.[6][7]

She is in such high standing that she is documented having communication with Easterman, Moses Scarfiotti, Olivier W. Baranczyk,[8][9] Clyde Perry, Jameson Lawler, Sidney Gottlieb,[10] Allen Dulles,[3] Jun Kusamura,[11][12] and the Board. She seems to have a closer connection with Moses Scarfiotti, as Dr. Easterman says that they both left early[13] at the party (inferred at the same time/together) and he remarks that you can't trust Italians.

After Clyde Perry's resignation from the Collections Department, she personally informs him of the Department of Historic Refinement and the securement of his position within it.[14][15] She also provides him with workers that she can spare.

Characteristics[]

Avellanos is incredibly money focused, to the point that she will completely disregard the possibilities of deaths or injuries, be it Reagents or civilians. However, she does express concern over the deaths of scientists[16], though this simply could be because it causes a profit loss to the Murkoff Corporation when losing workers. She is consistently seen talking about the costs of Sinyala operations, and most business she deals with is in regards to management or obtaining more funding.[17][18][19][2][5][20][7][21][22]

According to Easterman, he has faith in her and her contributions as he "believes [she] understands,"[23] and they both believe that it is crucial to find charismatic individuals for the Prime Assets. She also provides Easterman support in their mutual pitch of Project Lathe to Lawler, and that having discreet agents to carry out CIA affairs in order to avoid possible nuclear war is crucial[24][25].

She has confidence in the Murkoff Corporation, unlike the Scientists who believe in the betterment of the world via their work, she is more focused on the direct results they provide in missions and national security.[7] [20][25][22][3][5]

Story[]

The Outlast Trials[]

Avellanos, through her mannequin mockup, serves as a guide and instructor for the Reagents throughout the Trials. Her mannequin formally greets the new Reagent, guiding them throughout the Mansion. In the Sleep Room, she is often heard repeating the propaganda lines from the intercom.

In Vindicate The Guilty, her mannequin is accused of crimes including "kidnapping, torture, and mutilation of four men and women." She denies the accusations, claiming her work is focused on valuable scientific advancements. After Judge's death, her mannequin expresses gratitude to the Reagents, celebrating her justice and freedom.

In the Farewell trial, she tells the Reagent to deliver their document boxes to the authorities. Once Reagent is able to escape the Mansion, she informs them to leave the facility and share what they have learned with the world.

Personality[]

Deeply cynical and amoral (like many other Murkoff employees), she does not hold any sympathy for Reagents nor civilians and even relishes in the possibility of Reagent deaths. She smiles[16] upon hearing such news, as well as in other conversations involving mass amounts of death (however when Lawler mentioned this she deflected by saying it was simply because it was nice to see him[7]).

She is rather aloof when her co-workers and acquaintances worry about (understandably serious) matters: such as telling Clyde that she is not worried about the document leaks within the trials[26], that Lawler should not lose his nerve[5] after the incident, and seemingly unbothered by the potential threat of nuclear annihilation[6].

She has a witty and dry sense of humor: telling Lawler that she will "cash out [her] banana investments"[27] after the events in Cuba, that Easterman was looking "blue"[28] (after the events of the New Years party where he lost his hair due to Thalium being in his coat pocket and having to ingest Prussian Blue), dismissing Clyde's concerns about the documents leak because "nobody reads anything. Reading is boring"[14], and saying that "[Jun] and Wernicke could drown puppies together.[12]"

Physical description[]

Not much about her appearance is known beyond her hair being blond.

Trivia[]

  • She enjoys artichokes.[3]
  • She is a smoker.[29]
  • She does not have any children.[29]
  • According to Moses Scarfiotti, Jameson Lawler has an interest in her, to which she does not outright deny.[21]
  • Seen in various trial environments, most notably the Mansion, Avellanos is the "Murkoff Lady in Blue" mannequin that gives directional assistance, announcements, and propaganda.
  • Avellanos' first name is never used in the formal documents. It is first used to address her in a meeting with Jameson Lawler.[30]
