TRANSCRIPTION FROM TAPE OF CONFERENCE BETWEEN A. BRADLEY AVELLANOS AND JAMESON LAWLER (CIA)
EDITED FOR CLARITY
[Minutes 13-17]
LAWLER: ...one thing after another. You ever get the feeling the brakes are off and the hill's only getting steeper?
AVELLANOS: How about you stay on that side of the desk?
LAWLER: You're serious.
AVELLANOS: No more 'conferences.' Not 'till things calm down. Sober Easterman turns out to be even worse than the man soaked in gin and amphetamines.
LAWLER: Sverdlovsk is gonna fuck us. And this Kennedy kid. He took West Virginia. You see that?
AVELLANOS: He's a rich man's son. Money buys votes.
LAWLER: We've got money. But Jack's got charisma. Allen's acting erratic. Losing John Foster certainly didn't help. Gottlieb's pulling at straws.
AVELLANOS: We may be able to offer some help. It's early days, but we have a vector on political will.
LAWLER: Political Will as in... domestic politics?
AVELLANOS: Don't sell me your American exceptionalism, we're all making sausage in the same factory.
LAWLER: What's the vector?
AVELLANOS: You ever heard of Kress Chemical?"
