ZERMATT, SWITZERLAND (AP) -
Reclusive and eccentric millionaire Jacque Trégouët was announced dead on Sunday after police were notified by an anonymous caller. Trégouët parlayed an inherited fortune into an incredibly profitable shipping empire in the decades following the Second World War. A socialite and playboy, Trégouët was known for his lavish parties and passion for travel and big game hunting, until all-but vanishing from the public eye in recent years. Relatives said Jacque was getting in touch with his spiritual side.
Though details are scant, police issued a statement saying Trégouët died by his own hand. Early reports said Trégouët's body had been mutillated[sic] almost beyond the point of recognition, unable to determine if the injuries were acquired before or after death, though subsequent details have cast doubt on the story.
