The Climber is one of the antagonists in The Outlast Trials.

Background[]

Characteristics[]

Based on the prototype clip shared by Red Barrels, the Climber behaves like normal Grunts patrolling throughout the Trial as an obstruction the Reagents's path and actively chases them once they are spotted. Unlike normal Grunts, he utilizes his climbing hook to easily traverse through co-op jumps and heights quickly, allowing him to catch up with the Reagent without having to run around. It implies that his climbing hook can also provide him a further close range advantage, thus making him a far more significant threat when closing distance than most of the Ex-Pops.

Story[]

The Outlast Trials[]

Physical description[]

The Climber is a well built Caucasian male with almost no hair on his body. Unlike many of the other Ex-Pops, the climber's arms have much more muscle mass and are decently built. He wears a pair of black workman's trousers with slight tears on at the bottom of the left leg. Along with this he wears a simple pair of light tan workman's boots. On his upper body he wears a dirty white & brown vest which bears similarities to an old life vest worn by sailors. His most standout feature is a massive hook attached to his left arm which itself appears to be a shoddy metallic prosthetic covered in blood. The hook bears similiters to an 'Aberdeen J-Hook' only with a longer shank and smaller bend into the hooks point. His right arm and left leg have small metallic poles sticking out of them similar to the naked big grunt. He also has a bloody bandage wrapping around his left hand and wrist.

Trivia[]

  • Despite making an appearance in the YouTube trailer and old promotional images in Steam page, he currently does not appear or mentioned in the official game.[1]
  • In the second Trials documentary, the Climber's name is displayed as one of the Specialists groups for Ex-Pops.[2]
  • The Climbers vest bears a striking resemblance to an epic shirt that players can equip.
