TRANSCRIPTION FROM SURVEILLANCE TAPE OF CONVERSATION BETWEEN OTTO KRESS, ARORA KRESS, AND JUN KUSAMURA
TRANSLATED, EDITED FOR CLARITY
[Minutes 214-216]
(Translator's Note: Arora Kress's Japanese is rough and oddly accented, requiring some interpretation.)
KUSAMURA- (The Haber-Bosch process is the single greatest creation of the century. Every meal you eat, every bomb dropped, every bullet fired. Half the population would not have been born and ninety-nine percent of the murders would not have occured[sic] without his work. Only God has surpassed him in creation and killing. What did he write you about?)
ARORA KRESS- (Once we realized we were...) kindred spirits, I'm sorry I don't know the word, (We both noticed a chemical component in the sentiments growing in Europe prior to the second war.)
KUSAMURA- (Yes! Oh, yes, absolutely. The National Socialist Movement, all fascism really, it's primarily a movement based in drugs and fear. The politics is strictly ornamental.)
ARORA KRESS- (Otto might have some small disagreements with you.)
OTTO- Yes, dear? What was that?
ARORA KRESS- (But I could not be more in agreement.)
KUSAMURA- (The drug intake among the Nazi leadership was breathtaking. Among the soldiers even more so.)
ARORA KRESS- (When we watched Hitler, this twisted, ugly little drug-addled dwarf, rise to power and conquer. We were inspired. Otto watched the newsreels of the rallies with tears in his eyes. We thought: why not us? If he can do it, why not us?)"
