CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY INTERNAL MEMO
TRANSCRIPTION OF INTERVIEW BETWEEN JAMESON LAWLER (CIA) AND HENDRICK JOLIET EASTERMAN (CIVILIAN)
Recorded: Chicago, Il
EDITED FOR CLARITY
[Minutes 39-41]
LAWLER: Everything is a language.
EASTERMAN: Everything is a language. Yes.
LAWLER: Your brother killed himself.
(Note: several moments silence)
LAWLER: Your brother killed himself in Korea. He was a Lieutenant, I believe?
EASTERMAN: You have this thing you do. You say things that sound like questions but aren't questions.
LAWLER: I don't say anything that's not true.
EASTERMAN: We can't know. My brother died alone. The forensics were sloppy.
LAWLER: You don't think he killed himself.
EASTERMAN: A lot of strange things happen in war.
LAWLER: Correct. Emphatically correct.
EASTERMAN: What are we talking about?
LAWLER: I have an opportunity for you to study what happened in Korea. We're holding K.P.A. Brainwashing subjects in Hong Kong. We need somebody with your bona fides to investigate."
