TRANSCRIPTION FROM SURVEILLANCE TAPE OF CONVERSATION BETWEEN OTTO KRESS, ARORA KRESS, AND JUN KUSAMURA
TRANSLATED, EDITED FOR CLARITY
[Minutes 209-213)
(Translator's Note: Arora Kress's Japanese is rough and oddly accented, requiring some interpretation. )
KUSAMURA- (They are... messengers, yes? The spiderweb form, it reminds me of the ripples in a pond. Somebody from a deeper reality poking the surface of our reality.)
ARORA KRESS- (Agreement. Fritz used to write us that chemical science leads the philosophy of leadership.)
KUSAMURA- Fritz?
ARORA KRESS- Haber.
OTTO KRESS- What's that, darling? Did this little devil know uncle Fritz?
KUSAMURA- (You talked to Fritz Haber?!)
ARORA KRESS- (We corresponded. In between the wars. I'm afraid Fritz had a hard time in the second one.) Couldn't have happened to a nicer man.
KUSAMURA- (I am Fritz Haber's number one fan. Such an artist. A builder of empires.)
OTTO KRESS- What is he getting so hot and bothered over? Arora?
ARORA KRESS- Otto! Turn me back around.
KUSAMURA- (And he wrote you letters? Do you still have any? I'm a collector. I have... I have some influence inside the Facility, if you have any of those letters, I could get you anything you want. What did he write you about?)
ARORA KRESS- (All our letters are gone. We lost everything, I'm afraid. The family business did quite well after the first war, there were new processes, new technologies. Chemical stockpiles to be re-filled. We reached out to Fritz because I had heard he was working on an alternate to methylenedioxymethamphetamine. It was just a rumor, but he proved a kind and generous correspondant.[sic] Something of a mentor, really.)"
