The way to Sinyala is a long trip on bad roads. I feel like somebody's been kicking me in the spine. I find myself missing Irene not only for her marital duties but her not-inconsiderable skills as a masseuse.
I am writing supine, alone in a warehouse that could house an army. The space will do. We have electricity from generators. Drawing water from the Colorado or Havasu will be a feat of engineering but is not impossible.
We'll need an architect. Avellanos will be interviewing candidates.
The Collections Department, too, is already at work researching potential subjects, both for prime assets and general experimental population.
The desert is lonely, but it's the sort of loneliness that inspires focus. I find the Sun a fountainhead of inspiration.
I'm flushed with optimism. We are going to achieve phenomenal things here.""
