VIRALeaks (a portmanteau of "viral" and "leaks") is a company that specializes in publishing previously classified documentation and leaking information relating to abuse of power, corruption and violation of human rights by powerful figures, larger corporate groups or state entities.[1]
Background[]
VIRALeaks was founded by Simon Peacock after he left Murkoff Corporation in an attempt to expose their crimes to the general public.
After escaping from Mount Massive Asylum, Waylon Park reached out to Simon Peacock and provided video evidence of the incident. Before uploading the footage to VIRALeaks, Simon warns Waylon that, should he proceed with the upload, Murkoff will stop at nothing to exact their revenge on him and his loved ones. Waylon acknowledges the risk and proceeds to upload the footage.[1]

Trivia[]
- VIRALeaks is inspired by the real life WikiLeaks, a non-profit media organization and publisher of leaked documents notable for exposing serious violations of human rights and civil liberties by various organizations and governments. VIRALeaks' founder Simon Peacock is also based on Australian activist and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange; His Outlast: Whistleblower character model is named "Julian" within the game's files and he speaks with a faux Australian accent.
- In Outlast: Whistleblower, the leaked footage element is a scripted story-related sequence and is not affected by the player's actions. Should the player choose to never use the camcorder throughout their playthrough, the game will still act as if they had enough footage to use as evidence.
