The Victims are the unfortunate ones that tend to meet grisly ends in the various Trials and Challenges in The Outlast Trials. Their origins tend to be unknown, as well as their appearances, but their lives are crucial to Dr. Easterman's brainwashing process on the Reagents.
Background[]
The victims do not tend to have any given background; most of their stories need to be inferred from the dialogues that can be heard while the Reagents interact with them.
At the moment, these are currently numerous victims that were killed in the Trials:
- Many former Reagents
- The Snitch
- Bootleg Jesus
- Bootleg Futterman
- The Judge
- Many Scapegoats
- Oscar
- The Deviant
- The Mules
- At least two female Big Grunts
- The District Attorney
- The STD Victim
- The Union Boss
- The Prosecuted
- The Politician
- The Lot
Plot[]
The victims serve as very important objectives within Trials and Challenges, with most of the needed actions leading to their demise at the request of Dr. Easterman.
Physical description[]
Although they vary in body type, gender, and clothing, all the victims do share one feature: a masked or covered face. Most of the victims have their faces covered by a green fabric bag, and those who do not wear bags may either wear unique head coverings or have their faces obscured through other means (such as transparent body bags for the Mules).
The victims are also not without various wounds or injuries, all of them experiencing an unpleasant time before their arrival at their respective Trial/Challenge. They also tend to be confined to a chair or object, unable to escape or restricting their movement.
Characteristics[]
While personalities do vary, the victims all share the same response in expressing their fear of death and injury. They are all very aware that they are not in a situation without danger and that the Reagents are there to complete the Trial, even if it means they must be sacrificed in the process. Some of them also express their existing connections as well, be it with Mother Gooseberry, Leland Coyle, Franco Barbi, or Dr. Easterman.
Trivia[]
- In Cancel the Autopsy, the objectives stated the people used for grinding are "agents." It is possible that their equipment can be stripped away (outside of Rebirth) as Cornelius Noakes stated that the ESOPs can be removed from Reagent corpses and re-used for its future candidates.
- Some dialogues for the victims revealed that they were previously Reagents who had taken part of the Trials before. The notable ones are: The Snitch, The Judge, The Scapegoats, the dangling Reagents in Poison the Medicine, and the Mules.
- In Kill the Snitch, some idle Grunts warn Reagents that they could one day share the same fate as the Snitch.
- During the shuttle hallucinations in the The Suburbs trials, it is implied that Reagents are subconsciously aware the victims were once Reagents themselves, as they envision themselves restrained like the Union Boss.
