PRIVATE JOURNAL ENTRY OF DR. HENDRICK JOLIET EASTERMAN
The path of discovery is never a straight line. Nothing humbles a man so much as a strict adherence to the scientific method. I thought charisma could be combatted with charisma. But fighting fire with fire only makes a conflagration.
I look again to Christ. You kill a nation's soldier, and all you've done is kill a soldier. But if you strike against yourself, a tactical suicide correctly applied, you can destroy that whole nation.
It occurs to me as I look at orders for Reagents in Vietnam. Reagents conditioned for self-destruction, culturally attuned to urban environments, aesthetically groomed to pass in a Western crowd.
It looks much like we are striking at ourselves in order to kill our enemies.
