- "You are justice. You are loyal. We cannot allow the tyranny of facts and impartial reason to condemn the people who protect and guide you. The past is changeable, the future is set. Sabotage the court, kill the judge, and we will let you out."
- ―Hendrick Joliet Easterman
Vindicate the Guilty is a trial that takes place at the Courthouse in The Outlast Trials. It was released on October 26th, 2023 as part of the fourth program, along with the release of the Program Geister event.[1]
Gameplay[]
We cannot allow our innocent institutions to be persecuted for their clear guilt. Sabotage the proceedings, silence the witnesses, and revoke the authority of the judge.
The Reagents must first make their way into the Courthouse and head to the courtroom, but a gate will block the path with Coyle stepping on a reagent corpse on the other side, telling the players that the accused will meet her fate. This causes the reagents to make their way through the library in order to reach the courtroom, to which they press a button switch to trigger the first cutscene. After the cutscene concludes, the players head into the door to the right of the judge's desk. Inside the room there is an evidence box on the desk, pressing it will turn on the UV light to show the code in the form of a triangle order puzzle. Getting the code correct will open the box and reveal a decapitated head. Reagents must take the head out of the room and towards the fountain. After dropping it into the fountain, a gate will roll up and players must head into a small bathroom to pick up the acid bucket and bring it back to pour into the acid container.
Two more gates will roll up and the Reagents will have to go to the evidence area to find 2-3 more evidence boxes, and go upstairs to get 1-2 acid buckets. Upon putting all of these into the fountain the evidence will be destroyed and the reagents have to head back to the courtroom. Another cutscene will occur and draw attention to the witnesses, prompting the reagents to go to the door on the left and pick up the microwave trigger to kill the contained witness. Once dead, they are lead to the next area to pick up a tracker and are let out into the courthouse. One witness is hiding in the library and the other upstairs, with various Ex-Pop roaming in both areas.
Once they are killed the reagents must head back to the courtroom and the judge is loaded into an execution contraption. The two doors to the back of the courtroom will open and the two switch boxes in that room must be turned on to power the cranks, with Coyle chasing down the reagents throughout the area.
Fully cranked, the device executes the judge and allows the reagents to run out of the courthouse back to the trial shuttle.
